Tom's Wall
13890 Lauderdale County 8, Florence, AL 35633
The Wall was built by Tom Hendrix to commemorate the history of the Trail of Tears. It is the largest non-mortared rock wall in the world. Mr. Hendrix dedicated the wall in memory of his great-great-grandmother Te-lah-nay; a Yuchi Indian.
The Trail of Tears was the removal act of 1830 under President Andrew Jackson. Native Americans were forced from their homes by federal troops and forced to make the long trek to reservations in the West, most on foot. Thousands died during the journey.
